A Life More Ordinary

And Now For (one of) My Favourite Pastimes

Posted on: December 6, 2011

Down the road in… one of the directions, from here is a place called the Jinny Ring. It’s a typical craft centre. It has a tea shop — something I’m finding standard in most Ladies-type destinations. (all the Garden Centres have them). It has a pond outside where you can feed ducks. It has a great soap shop, and a dude that makes string instruments (however not much of a conversationalist).  But what keeps me coming back again and again isn’t their Cream Teas or the Chocolate Shop, but a place called Top Glass.

Watching them at work fills me with the desire to go back to school and be that person who sticks molten glass into an extremely hot furnace. I could loaf in their open studio all day, however I think that might earn me “groupie / stalker” status. But I don’t care. It’s amazing to watch, and beautiful to behold.

Beautiful, coloured glass is one of my greatest weaknesses! Your photo reminds be of the work of Dale Chihuly (http://cruises.about.com/od/europeancruises/ig/London–England/london040-jpg.htm) and also of witch balls (http://witchball.net/).

I love that chandelier. When I was a uni at KU, his work came in to the University Art Gallery. It was stunning. I have never seen those witch balls before. They are awesome! (even if they do have a funny name) 🙂

That photo is amazing! It looks like you could “pop” the glass balls just by touching them. I would be a groupie, too!

Thanks! I love that place. I have more pictures of it. I must find them and post them.
